Many of you know, I am a critter lover. My dh likes animals, but believes they should be kept outside or in the zoo. I remind him often that it's a good thing I have him around, or I would be the crazy lady with the stinky house full of fur-balls and feathers!
I decided it might be fun to share our favorites among the pets with whom we have shared our homes. We have had some that we loved, and some we didn't. ;-) So start thinking . . . I will want your list at the end.
5. Hamsters - My history with hamsters and gerbils is not good. Someday I will tell you the hamster story from my first year of teaching. For today however, with our focus on family pets I will simply say that after it got out of its cage while we were away one weekend, chewed a whole in the side of one of the kids mattresses, and nested in there for weeks before we found it. This critter rates the lowest on my list of favorites.
4. We also tried having a rabbit on two different occassions. I know there are people who have trained their rabbits to use a litter box and follow them around the house. That however is not our story. Ours chewed the molding and being males bunnies sprayed the walls around their cage. Eeew! The are soooo cute, but for several reasons do not rate near the top of my list of favorites.
3. We had more success with our guinea pigs. Although we discovered that it is more than necessary to keep after their cages to prevent their odious fragrance from wafting through the house. They are however sweet docile little things and the kids enjoyed playing with them.
2. Our first pet after we were married was a parakeet. The first one was named Macbeth, but he came to a tragic end . . . so we named the next one Methuselah! He lived much longer, but was not nearly as pleasant as his predecessor.
1. Since I was a little girl I have had five dogs; two Schauzers, a Cocker mix, a Terrier mix, and currenly a Bichon Frise. I am a huge fan of the puppy!! I know they are lots of work, and require companionship, and attention, but I firmly believe that they give back much more than they take. It's important to do lots of research to find the right breed for your family's personality. Schnauzers seem to like to roam and explore - translated it's sometimes hard to keep them from running off. Bichons are needy, but also very affectionate and loyal. So, of all of my pets, Chloe pictured here gets the award of being my number one favorite.
Okay, now it's your turn. Tell us about your pets. The ones you loved, those you liked, and those you didn't.
Give them a message for their masters and say, 'This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: "Tell this to your masters: With my great power and outstretched arm I made the earth and its people and the animals that are on it, and I give it to anyone I please. Jeremiah 27:4-5
