I came across this video entitled - Lord, Lord, posted by One Time Blind, on Tangle. It's powerful message blessed me this morning; a reminder that the Lord has called me to obedience in all things. He does know what is best for each of us and loves us so much. Sometimes that thing He asks us to do seems too difficult, but faith and trust call me to obey Him anyway.
We get challenged in the church today for being too legalistic if we focus on obedience. However our attention to obedience is only Law if we are obedient because of what it will do for us. We don't obey the Lord because of what it will gain us. We obey Him because we love Him: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Obedience is our response to what He has already done. That's the Gospel. Our actions won't make Him love us more or less, but think about it - our obedience or lack of it says something about our love for Him.
Ooh, that's convicting. It is for me, too. I understand what Paul meant when he said that no matter how hard he tried to obey, he just couldn't seem to get it right. I am not willing to make that truth an excuse to give up trying. My heart's desire is a love that goes so deep and a trust that is so secure that doing things according our Lord's instruction and truth is my goal. I know I will never get it right this side of heaven. No matter how hard I try to obey Him perfectly I will continue to be a sinful human being. I can however, pray daily that my love for God - made possible through Jesus, and enabled by the power of the Holy Spirit will be constantly increasing, and that my love will be demonstrated through my desire and willingness to obey.
Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God - the gospel He promised beforehand through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding His Son, who as to Hi human nature was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by His resurrection from the dead; Jesus Christ our Lord. Through Him and for His name's sake, we received grace and apostleship to call people from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith. And you also are among those who are called to belong to Jesus Christ. Romans 1:1-6
